Google is once again in the spotlight for its alleged abuse of a dominant position in the online advertising market. Companies, agencies and publishers from the European Union and the United Kingdom are launching an ambitious lawsuit against the Mountain View company , which they accuse of damaging their business by its "abuse of power" in the online advertising sector. The lawsuit will be filed in courts in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

The lawsuit, which was filed by a Belgian law firm, is seeking compensation of 25 billion euros for companies harmed by Google. This is much higher than the amount faced by the American multinational in previous lawsuits. The last lawsuit imposed by the European Commission on Google was, for example, worth 1.49 billion euros.
"Publishers, including national and local media that play a crucial role in our society, have long been harmed by Google's anti-competitive behaviour ," says Damien Geradin of the Belgian law firm Geradin Partners.
“It is time for Google to take responsibility and pay for the damage it has caused to this important industry. This is why we are today announcing these lawsuits across two jurisdictions, to achieve compensation for both British and European publishers ,” Geradin stresses.
