Many people wonder what e-commerce is and why this phrase is so often used on the Internet and in various media. In fact, even the popular E-commerce Fairs dedicated to e-commerce have been organized twice a year in recent years, instead of once a year as before.
In this article, I will present what e-commerce is, what the idea is and the history of its creation, what types of e-commerce there are and what e-commerce really gives to a normal mortal like you or me.
What is e-commerce
The term e-commerce can be simply defined as online trading. In other words, any transaction that takes place using the internet can be said to be an e-commerce transaction. Within e-commerce, we can speak of the purchase of goods and services, and the parties to the transaction can be both companies and individuals.
How the idea of e-commerce came about
The origins of e-commerce cannot be explained without the history of the Internet. The first news about the Internet appeared in 1969. The first nodes of the Arpanet network algeria b2b leads were installed in Los Angeles, which was the beginning of the current Internet.
Over the course of several decades, it has developed widely and has spread practically all over the world. In the first phase of its creation, the Internet played a primarily communication role, but the 1980s saw attempts to use its capabilities in trade. Thanks to the existence of electronic data interchange (EDI) systems, companies could exchange commercial information.
This improved communication, but did not fully solve all problems - EDI only worked in the company network. B2B electronic commerce came to the rescue of solving many issues. It used computer applications that are based on the network. Although the Internet was still used mainly like EDI systems, it was characterized by greater flexibility. Relatively quickly, the Internet became a method for making purchases or sales. Commercial transactions conducted electronically were significantly improved, and as early as 1979 it was possible to make purchases online.
However, significant popularization of e-commerce occurred in 1992, when the ban on commercial use of the Internet was lifted in the United States.
Since around 2000, the e-commerce boom has reached such a level that most businesses offer or advertise their services via the Internet. Both sellers and buyers benefit greatly from this and it is no longer possible to return to the times when purchases and transactions could only be carried out in a brick-and-mortar store.
What is worth knowing about the history of e-commerce in Poland
The popularization of e-shops has of course also reached Poland - here the first e-shop was established in 1994. Poles could use the Internet earlier, since 1991. In 1999, Merlin, Empik and today's giant - Allegro were established.
Since then, e-commerce has been developing dynamically in the country and reaching an increasingly wider group of recipients. It is no wonder that Poland is a country where online sales and shopping have quickly gained supporters, and now often replace traditional shopping.
Many goods can be purchased quickly, conveniently and without any problems on the Internet. Everything indicates that the online shopping market in Poland will continue to develop steadily and systematically, gaining new supporters year by year.
It is worth adding that civil law contracts concluded online in Poland are regulated by the provisions of the Civil Code and the Act on the Protection of Certain Consumer Rights.
