POLITICO EU Influence: Boris bloodbath — Selmayr to Vienna — 5 go lobbying

Post by arzina221 »

HERE’S BORIS: The new British prime minister presided over 17 sacking or resignations from the Cabinet, in a shift to the right, and towards a younger, more diverse team. The key adviser role to watch is that of hard Brexiteer Dominic Cummings, widely considered to be the mastermind behind the Vote Leave campaign in 2016. Here’s a look at Johnson’s top team.

EU’S MAN IN VIENNA: Martin Selmayr, the outgoing European Commission secretary-general, will become the Commission’s representative to Austria later this year. Selmayr will take over as the Commission’s man in Vienna from Jörg Wojahn, who’ll move to Berlin to head the Commission’s mission there. Current Berlin representative special lead Richard Kühnel, meanwhile, will return to Brussels for a senior role at the Commission’s directorate-general for communication.

APPLE’S MAN IN BRUSSELS: Long-time Brussels hand Hendrik Bourgeois, currently at Cargill, will be taking over as Apple’s head of public affairs in Europe in September.

PR FIVE: Five EU public affairs firms are coming together to form The Brussels Group. Cattaneo Zanetto & Co (Italy), Eupportunity (Portugal), Lighthouse Europe (France), LP Brussels (U.K.) and Navas & Cusi (Spain) are members of the group which will be a “common platform to pull resources, share knowledge and better serve our clients.” (Just don’t call it a merger, said senior partner Henrique Burnay.)
