Search query intent, or how to promote a website by a large number of keywords

Post by mdsojolh634 »

We translated and commented on an article by Neil Patel , marketer and co-founder of Neil Patel Digital, about how to collect a semantic core and promote a website in search engines for a large number of keywords on one page.

Keyword SEO is no longer relevant. Changes in Google algorithms, such as RankBrain , have deprived us of the ability to influence rankings using pure keyword occurrences.

Let us remind you that Google RankBrain is an algorithm that helps users find pages that are relevant to their query, but do not contain exact matches of the keywords from it.
This begs the question: why talk about keyword ranking then?

There is a difference between using keywords in search engine optimization and keyword optimization.

Keywords are simply phrases that people type into a search engine taiyuan mobile phone numbers database to describe what they are looking for. They help search engines sort through billions of potentially relevant sites and posts to find the content that interests the user.

When we say “Keyword SEO is Dead,” we mean the way SEOs have traditionally used them.

Due to improvements in algorithms, such as Google Hummingbird , search engines are learning to better understand the meaning of a query, which means they are better at selecting search results.

In other words, matching the query wording is no longer as important as matching the user's intention, or, as they say in the industry, "intent . "

Previously, it was enough to find a keyword with low competition and high traffic and create a separate page for it. Use the query in the text several times - and you are on the first page of search results (of course, all this was not so simple, but the principle is clear).

Well, this approach no longer works. Now we need to target the user's intent. This is great news, because in this case we get the opportunity to use several keywords in a piece of content, which makes it easier to effectively promote.

Is it possible to rank successfully for multiple keywords?
Agree that there is no point in sewing hundreds of keywords on the promoted page if they do not help the site's positions in the search results. How many of them are needed for successful ranking?

According to Ahrefs, the top-ranking pages in search have, on average, 957 additional keywords for which they also rank in the top 10 results.

Of course, ranking on the first page is extremely difficult. But if we check any page from the top 20, we will find about 225 additional keywords that cause it to rank on the first page. So, even if your main keyword is only on the second page, you have more than 200 others that are successfully ranking.

This is why it is always worth using clusters of keywords on promoted pages, rather than a limited set of high-frequency queries.

If you want to rank for a term that is searched for at least 10,000 times per month, your chances of ranking in the top positions are very slim. Over 84% of pages that rank in the top position for a popular term rank for only one keyword.

If you look at the traffic volume for 1000 queries per month, it becomes clear that only 35.6% of the total examples rank for just one keyword. This means that 64.4% of pages rank first for one keyword and at least once for another query in the overall results.

The highest percentage falls on pages with two keywords (18.5%), followed closely by pages with 5-9 keywords (16.5%).

This means that if your SEO expertise allows you to rank #1 for one keyword, you have a good chance of ranking #1 for other keywords as well.

What do websites that rank for multiple keywords have in common?
3 out of 5 pages (64.4%) that rank #1 for a term that is searched for about 1,000 times per month get the same amount of traffic for other keywords. Also, naturally, articles with more words, more trust, and more backlinks will have an easier time ranking for more than one term.
