V SDG Breakfast: the future of work

Post by rabia829 »

Last Friday, May 10, we held the fifth SDG Breakfast at Mediapost. This initiative, organized in collaboration with the Spanish Network for Sustainable Development (REDS-SDSN), aims to communicate the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and generate conversation around the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

5th Joaquin Nieto SDG Breakfast

On this occasion and after having had María Cortés Puch , Miguel Ángel Moratinos , Carlos Mataix and the current president of REDS, Leire Pajín , in advertising phone number data other editions , we had the honour of having Joaquín Nieto, director of the office for Spain of the International Labour Organisation (ILO).

The objective of this meeting was to generate conversation around the industrial revolution in which we currently find ourselves, and to learn how we should face the challenges that are coming in the workplace.

According to Nieto, “it is in this context that the work of organizations such as the ILO, whose aims are completely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, becomes essential.” The ILO director spoke to us about the work and reflections that the office is promoting to contribute to building a future with decent, inclusive and sustainable work . Work and reflections “closely linked to many of the SDGs, not only Goal 8, which specifically speaks of Decent Work and Economic Growth, but to many others such as 1.1, which refers to the income of people living in extreme poverty, or 1.3, which deals with the social protection of the poorest and most vulnerable.”

Joaquín Nieto defines decent work as work with rights, without discrimination, in conditions of health and safety, with an income that allows people to live with dignity and with social protection.

Among the major challenges we face worldwide, which will directly affect work, the director of the ILO Office for Spain has spoken of technological change, climate change, the demographic situation, the growth of migratory movements and the emergence of women demanding equal rights and working conditions.

“This whole cocktail, in the situation of inequality in which we live, will have enormous consequences for the employment panorama and for work relations, since hundreds of millions of jobs will disappear, many others will be created and/or transformed… And, in this whole scenario of change, it is necessary to govern the transition in a fair way, with social peace and coexistence.”
