Mobiles that are currently running versions of Android that are too old to run WhatsApp are therefore almost all out of circulation. If we rely on statistics from AppBrain and Google , they would now represent less than 1% of mobile phones used in the world. Their share is probably even lower in rich economies like that of France.
On Apple's side, WhatsApp will continue to run on phones running at least iOS 12, which represent the majority of iPhones in circulation (98.6% in the United States, for example, according to Statscounter ). The youngest model that cannot be updated to iOS 12 is the iPhone 5c, released in 2013.
