If you search online for examples of this principle, you can't help but come across an image that looks like this one.

This is a so-called heat map. A heat map shows how intensely certain areas were looked at. The warmer the colour, the more intensely they were looked at. On the right you see the same idea, only now the woman is looking the viewer straight in the eye.
The heatmap shows that the shampoo bottle is being looked at more intensely and with that an attempt is made to prove the gaze principle. Unfortunately, heatmaps tell us nothing about the direction of view and the effectiveness of a Human Gaze and it leaves many questions open.
