I do see long-term value in SD for RR types where parsing the page is hard. Event dates? Venue phone numbers? Ratings & scales? Article date? It's possible, but hard + unique per page/site, and embarrassing when we highlight it incorrectly.

Google does not read unsupported structured data
Structured data is also affected by the fact that Google does not read the data that it does not support. Mueller mentioned this in another Google SEO office-hours video. You can find the structured data supported by Google here and you can test your website using the Structured Data Testing Tool or the newer Rich Results Test .
