Remove flashing elements (32%): Flashing elements can trigger seizures in people with epilepsy or other neurological disorders, so they should be avoided.
Is Germany prepared for the European Accessibility Act, which comes into force in 2025?
Just over a third of websites (36%) have already ensured compliance with the regulations by the EAA deadline. 42% have a plan but have not yet implemented it, while 14% have not yet made any plans to implement the law.

To ensure your company is well prepared, you should review and implement the following points.

Accessible website checklist to prepare for the European Accessibility Act:
Identify affected products and services : Create a comprehensive list of all products and c level executive list services affected by the EAA (for example: computers, smartphones, software, e-books and digital publications, and banking services).
Understand legal requirements: Gain a comprehensive understanding of the specific requirements of the EAA and familiarize yourself with state laws.
Perceptibility (e.g. sufficient color contrasts, alternative texts)
Usability (e.g. keyboard usability, avoidance of time limits)
Comprehensibility (e.g. clear and simple language, logical structure)
Robustness (e.g. compatibility with assistive technologies)
4. Make technical adjustments: Take the necessary technical measures to make your products and services accessible and use appropriate tools (browser extensions) to check accessibility, such as WAVE, aXe or Lighthouse.

5. Adapt processes and workflows: Integrate accessibility into your development process from the beginning and offer accessibility training to employees.

6. Create a declaration of conformity and document measures: Create a declaration of conformity confirming that all products and services comply with the requirements of the EAA and maintain comprehensive documentation of all accessibility measures implemented.

7. Monitoring and improvement: Continuously monitor accessibility and work closely with people with disabilities to incorporate their needs and experiences and further improve the measures implemented.

The complexity of IT or software is the biggest challenge in implementation
Even though the topic is already addressed on most websites, companies face challenges.

Let’s take a look at the three most frequently cited challenges and why they are difficult for companies to overcome:

IT or software complexity: Digital accessibility guidelines, such as WCAG, are extensive and include a variety of technical requirements. Correct implementation often requires specialized knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Adapting existing websites and applications based on outdated technologies can be time-consuming and resource-intensive. Make sure you develop a sustainable, long-term plan that won't disrupt your usual workflows.
