Social mentions are posts published on social media that reference your brand. These are posts in which your brand is tagged (called @mentions) or simply mentioned in the caption.

Here are two examples of Hootsuite mentions. In the first comment, Hootsuite is not tagged, unlike the next comment.

When using an @mention, users are typically trying to get your brand's attention. Sometimes, denmark phone number data they're talking about your brand but aren't specifically trying to get your attention, leaving their post unmentioned.

A social mention can be positive or negative (or even neutral).

You'll find social mentions on all social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Read on to learn how to track and respond to these mentions across all platforms.

Why are social mentions so important?
Having your brand mentioned on social media indicates that people are interested in it—great news for social media managers trying to draw attention to their products or services.

Social mention tracking allows you to comb through ongoing conversations and see what people are saying about your brand. This approach is ideal for identifying the sentiments expressed in conversations (positive or negative) and learning more about your customers.
