Integrated resorts that include large casinos have the advantage for the region that they can be developed with outside money. They also offer large profit margins for investment bankers. However, the premise is always a short-term payback period. Can we really expect to see favorable investment in a development project that will take another three years just to clear the rubble, just like in a major city? First of all, is it really appropriate to assume that "rich people will flock to" Japan, where foreigners fled after the nuclear accident? If it fails because of something "unexpected," the disaster-stricken areas will be left with an even greater "negative legacy."
This fall, Toyota will enter the minicar market. "It's a matter of life and death!" says a Daihatsu dealer. Will Suzuki be able to exploit this gap and regain the top spot? And what are Mitsubishi and Nissan aiming for with their partnership? Now is the time to keep an eye on this market.
"It's fine if Daihatsu sells them. Toyota has no intention of selling more minicars than the number that was agreed upon."
Toyota Motor Corporation Executive Vice President remove background image Atsushi Niimi speaks during a press conference at Toyota's Tokyo headquarters in Koraku, Bunkyo Ward, on the afternoon of April 22, 2011.
This was after an emergency press conference with President Akio Toyoda and others regarding the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake on production. The opening remarks were in response to a question from reporters asking, "As the recovery from the earthquake disaster progresses, an increase in demand for minicars is expected. Will Daihatsu increase its supply of minicars?"
Toyota, the only domestic automaker other than trucks that did not handle minicars, agreed to receive OEM (original equipment manufacturer) supplies of minicars from its subsidiary Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. on September 28th of last year, nearly six months before the disaster. The content of the agreement was that starting this fall, Toyota would begin selling three models, including the Move Conte, at a scale of 60,000 units per year, mainly through Netz and Corolla dealerships.
Daihatsu minicars have been sold at Toyota dealerships through referral sales since 2003. The sales volume is roughly 30,000 units per year, but in addition to this, some Toyota-affiliated dealerships will sell 60,000 units under the Toyota brand.
How many minicars will Toyota sell?
