What do recommendations mean in reels? First, let's figure out where users see new content. Videos can be viewed in 4 sections:

A separate section — the Reels button is located in the center of the bottom panel of the application . The section is an endless feed, similar to the main one in TikTok. Here are the Reels of people you follow, as well as those recommended for you. If you liked a video, you can immediately subscribe to the author.
The standard Instagram Discover section . To get there, click the magnifying glass icon. Reels will be mixed in with other content. Instagram promotes Reels through this section, just as it once promoted IGTV.
Smart Instagram feed - along with regular posts and videos, announcements of new Reels are shown (can be configured during publication). The announcement of IGTV is the same.
The reels section in the profile . It is located next to the IGTV shop section, store, guide, masks, marks.
To get more reach and attract new users, you need to get into sections 1 and 2. 3 and 4 will help increase views and interactions from subscribers.

If you don't yet understand why it's so important to get featured by Reels, let us explain in more detail.

This is an absolutely free way to attract new subscribers. For example, it is much easier to promote on TikTok than on Instagram. Reels are one of the few Instagram features that allows you to quickly, free of charge and absolutely legally increase your audience. No extra costs or additional mass activity are required.

Reels are following in TikTok's footsteps — first, a video gets free reach, and then the algorithm looks at user responses. But you have to understand that it will be harder to get into recommendations in the future. So you need to start posting videos now.

As for the regular recommendations section. If your stories and IGTV publications have already appeared in this section (the "Magnifying glass" icon), then it is worth analyzing the content and tracking the principle by which it got there. Do the same with reels.

When promoting reels, Instagram algorithms primarily observe:

audience activity - which videos are liked, which ones are most often interacted with (liked, commented on, reposted);
for the history of interaction with the author of the publication - the principle is the same as with regular recommendations (the user sees videos that match his interests);
for information about Reels (content, music, quality);
for information about the creator of the video.
