Test your site speed with Google PageSpeed
Over the past few years, the SiteGround Optimizer plugin has become an essential part of netherlands mobile database SiteGround’s WordPress hosting service. We are constantly adding new features and improving existing ones to make your WordPress sites faster. Now, we would like to tell you more about the changes we have introduced with the latest versions of our plugin. Let’s take a look at the recent front-end changes and media optimizations added to the plugin and how to test your site’s speed using Google PageSpeed integration.
Prevent render-blocking JavaScript from slowing down your site
Very often JavaScripts in the site header do not allow the rest of the page to be displayed until it has been fully loaded. With our new feature, you can defer the JS render blocker and load the rest of the page without having to wait. Therefore, your visitors will see the fully loaded page faster. We are aware that some scripts should always remain render-blocking. For example, as in the case of jQuery script, there may be other scripts that rely on them. To support such scripts, we have created an easy-to-use feature to exclude specific scripts from being deferred. You can find and manage this new option in the Front End tab of the SiteGround Optimizer plugin.
Avoid unnecessary video loading with our new lazy loading options
Lazy loading of images has been available on SiteGround Optimizer for a while now. When enabled, it stops loading images until they are scrolled in the browser. Therefore, the first visible part of your page loads faster without waiting for images, which may never be reached by the visitor, to load in the background. You can now use lazy loading for iframes (YouTube, Vimeo and many more) and directly imported videos. Another new feature lets you choose whether your site loads on mobile devices or not.
Use the latest and fastest image format: WebP
WebP is the newest image format and it is extremely interesting. It has great potential to optimize the loading speed of all images on the web. This format can reduce the size of images by 25% to 35%. SiteGround Optimizer now allows you to create WebP versions of all images from your WordPress site with one click. Once done, we will load these smaller and faster images for browsers that support this format.
