Small actions to be more sustainable in your daily life

Post by pappu888 »

Sustainability and conscious consumption at home and in your daily life do not have to be a complex task. There are small actions, habits and tricks that will help you take care of the planet. We will tell you some of them in the framework of March 5, World Energy Efficiency Day.

Work, shops and the kitchen . These are three of the spaces where we spend time very often and where we can waste resources and leave a mark on the environment. Do you want to discover some habits to have a more responsible consumption and a more sustainable life ?

Below, we have compiled some, ranging from promoting owner/partner/shareholder email lists sustainable mobility to contracting energy that is committed to the planet, through how to avoid plastic packaging, how to buy the necessary food or how to use leftovers. Tips that have to do with the famous three Rs (reduce, recycle and reuse!) but also with having a critical, ethical and documented vision of what we consume.

But to start, as it is World Energy Efficiency Day , here are some tips on this area:

Switch to LEDs

Buy Class A appliances

Insulate your windows well

At work: public transport and Tupperware

That said, let’s focus on the day-to-day and the small sustainable habits that you can apply in your daily life. And we do so with regard to work; going to the place where you work is one of the first things you do every day. You can imagine the first piece of advice, right? Use public transport, or share a car if there are professionals in your area who travel to places close to your work. And, if your vehicle is bifuel or electric , even better! If your company is close to you, you can go on foot or by bicycle , which is also a healthy way to start the day.

And what about meals at work? It is advisable to bring a canteen or bottle to avoid waste, as well as your own Tupperware ; they surely have less environmental impact than that pasta salad wrapped in plastic that you often buy; you know that this takes a long time to degrade. If you take a sandwich with you, you can carry it in a case or a cloth wrapper with a Velcro closure, to avoid cling film or silver foil.

This technique will also work if you buy a sandwich or a croissant. Likewise, always carry bamboo cutlery with you , to replace the plastic ones you buy for takeaway. Oh, and if you have a coffee machine or you are one of those who buys one to take away, you can have your own cup in the office , which costs you nothing and helps reduce disposables. As for the work itself, one tip could be to decide carefully what you print and, once you no longer need it, recycle it. How? By turning it into notepads .
